The question of what to do about degraded western land is a difficult and
contentious one, and we all bring our own values and experiences to the
table when we discuss it. My values are somewhat conflicted, because I
recognize that land managers have to make do with limited resources even as I
envision what might be possible if the best planners and land managers were
given sufficient resources to really tackle the complicated problems. I do
support the interagency effort to increase the supply of native seed to plant
some of that degraded land.
As an aside, however, I see that Lon Crosby is listed as a supplier of
local-ecotype seed on the Iowa Prairie Network listserve. Whether or not we
agree on what to do about the issue of degraded western land, Lon, thank you
for helping to address the ecotype seed supply issue here in Iowa.
