		80th Annual Meeting
		             of the
	   Central States Entomological Society-
	        Kansas Entomological Society
 		   April 16-17, 2004
                     at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln


"Insect Biodiversity on the Prairies" is the theme for the 80th annual
meeting and includes conservation and surveys of insects on the prairies,
effects of introduced species on biodiversity, endangered species, effects
of Bt and pesticides on insect biodiversity, insect-plant interactions, and
many other exciting topics. The conference will be held at the University
of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 16-17.  The conference will be of
interest to conservationists, researchers, agriculturalists, naturalists,
and amateur entomologists.

Plenary speakers for the conference will speak on a variety of topics
related to prairie insect biodiversity:

Dr. Steve Buchmann, Bee Works, Tucson, Arizona
"Pollinators in Peril: Protecting the Birds and the Bees"

Dr. Rod Hanley, University of North Dakota
"Ecological Niche Modeling for the West Nile Virus"

Dr. Roy J. Beckemeyer, Emporia State University, Kansas
"Dragonfly and Damselfly Biogeography, Diversity, and Conservation"

Dr. Svata Louda, University of Nebraska
"Effects of Introduced/Exotic Species on Native Species of Insects"

Dr. Jan Weaver, University of Missouri
"Diversity Patterns in Space and Time across a Forested Landscape"

Dr. Kevin Floate, Lethbridge Research Centre, Alberta, Canada
"On the Diversity of Dung-Dwelling Denizens"

Dr. Leon Higley & William Allgeier, University of Nebraska
"Tiger, Tiger Burning Dim: Extinction and the Salt Creek Tiger Beetle"


The meeting will start Friday, April 16th at 7:00 pm with Steve Buchmann's
keynote address and a reception for conference attendees at the University
of Nebraska's Center for Great Plains Studies Art Gallery (Hewit Place,
1155 Q Street).  Meetings will reconvene on Saturday, April 17th at 8:30 am
at the University of Nebraska Union Auditorium (14th and R Streets, Room
211) and will include invited speakers, submitted presentations, and poster
presentations.  Student awards for presentations and posters will take
place during the final business meeting.  A schedule of events is available

The deadline for submission of posters and oral presentations is April 2,
