forbs

The word forbs is a slang term for flowering plants found in prairies. Now
were does this term comes from? My educated guess is that it comes from the
name of the family of plants fabaceace. The term was shorten to forbs. Not
all flowering plants of the prairie are in the fabaceace family but the
term has stuck.
