In the last two years I have become involved in prairie restoration.
I am a college student with very little scientific training. My
studies are concentrated in the humanities, but the prairie projects
are interesting to me. My first experiences were at a golfcourse
sout west of Chicago. We have established a few small prairies.
Since then I have become involved in various other projects.
Recently, I became steward of a prairie remnant in the Chicago
area.
I have gained all my knowledge of prairie restoration from volunteer
projects, speaking to people who "know", and reading books and
magazines.
Part of the efforts in prairie restoration seem to be educating those
who are not in the network of environmental restoration. By having
college students come out for a half day of work, you open some eyes
to the work that is being done.
Two years ago I didn't even know what a prairie was.
