Hello,
I am interested in your views regarding the temporary and permanent matrix
prairie restoration concept.
Some companies promote using approx. 4 lbs. of native grass seed, 2 lbs. of
forb seed, (permanent matrix seed) and approx. 32 lbs. oats, 10 lbs. annual
rye, 2lbs. Timothy, 1lb. red top, (temporary matrix seed).
I have always just used approx. 14 lbs. of native seed (50% grasses and 50%
forbs) with 2 to 3 bu. oats as a cover crop (approx. 50 lbs.). Are these two
methods equally effective? Does the temporary and permanent matrix concept
promote better erosion control? Is it as effective to use the lower seeding
rates of the native seed? Is anyone currently using the temporary and
permanent matrix concepts, and with what kind of results?
Thank you in advance for your input!
