Re: Broadleaf Weed Control

I would not recommend using 2,4-D or other broadleaf herbicide at this time. There may be some that I am not aware of that might work. Do not use 2,4-D, Remedy or Banvel until the new seedlings are well established. I wouldn't do it until next year. If the waterhemp is forming a complete canopy over the new seedlings that would prevent a majority of the spray from getting to the new plants then I might consider 1 pt. per acre of Remedy. Your other option is to mow taking care to not dump a bunch of litter on top of the new seedlings, smothering them out.

Good luck.

Subject: Broadleaf Weed Control

I have a 3 week old planting of 5 native grasses that is beginning to emerge and grow along with a thick stand of waterhemp, the waxy leaf mutant pigweed type. This is the one unaffected with many chemicals including Plateau.  Does any one know whether I can safely spray 2 4 D, or  other broadleaf herbicide,  and how much over this new seeding?  There are no forbs included at this time. Thanks
