controlling goldenrod

Hello,

I'm looking for advice on how to control a patch of native goldenrod. I
don't want to destroy it; I'd prefer to let nature take her course.
However, the goldenrod is moving into the most important part of a 2-acre
remnant and will clearly shade out several other native species I want to
retain.

Any suggestions?
