RE: vinegar and "weeds"

Garden-ville sells 20% vinegar and lists it as "an effective non-selective organic herbicide". I have never tried it, but if it is non-selective it may harm whatever it gets on.

Subject: vinegar and "weeds"

Someone else suggested I use vinegar against thistles. However, I
can't find information about how it affects other plants. It is nice
to know that grass survives. I'm more concerned about forbs. I've
seeded areas around thistle infestations. Is painting thistle with
vinegar as effective as painting with round-up? Can I spray the
thistles with minimal problems from drift onto other plants? In other
words, will a coating of vinegar kill the thistles, while a few drops
drifting onto nearby plants leave them unharmed?

Hmmm... I have a patch of crown vetch (over 50 feet across). I wonder
if vinegar affects crown vetch.
