Alan...I do this all the time...just spray the grass with Roundup and wait
until it is all yellow and completely dead...usually 7-10 days if it is not
raining all the time. Then, plant right through the dead sod. it acts as
a natural mulch and you don't expose hundreds of weed seeds to the
sunlight. Ruth
