While on thistle patrol this weekend I came upon a beautiful plant that I have
not been able to identify. Bear with my discription as I have no botony and
am new at plant identification:
the main stem is erect and about 5 feet tall; the leaves are large - 6 inches
long, 2 inches wide - with a thick vein running down the middle that shows red
on the top side, the underside of the leaf is velvety and whitish, the leaves
alternate; the tiny flower has 5 regular parts, is slightly purple, dozens of
the little flowers are on 3/4 inch whitish stems that radiate from a central
point to form a large ball about 2 1/2 inches in diameter, the younger flower
balls were erect, the more mature ball was drooping. My daughter says the
flowers smell like hyacinth to her.
Do I protect it or rip it out?
Carmen
