Re: in bloom

This plant is usually not highly visible unless in good numbers 
against a black (burned off) or green (cool season grass) background. 
The foliage is unmottled and very grayish, matching the litter on the 
ground. Our population consists of scattered plants in dry woodlands 
at the edges of dolomite glades, problably best seen along the 
Overlook Trail. To get here from Alton, go to I-270 then west 
and south to I-44. Proceed west on I-44 23 miles to the Gray Summit 
exit (#253) and follow the signs. Don't delay, the flowering only 
lasts about two weeks. If you miss it, though, you'll still get to 
see the other spring "goodies" forming flowerbuds now.
