We have about five acres we are burning annually or semi-annually (We are
still knocking back fescue and autumn olive) . We have several permanently
mowed trails meandering through it about four feet wide that serve as fire
breaks between the segments. We bushhog an eight foot wide break around the
perimeter and burn when there is NO WIND and the soil is still cool and wet
in the sping. Last year we forgot to call the neighbors. The conditions to
burn were near perfect when it was almost dark and when the twenty foot tall
wall of flame looked like it was heading toward their living room...... We
are still on speaking terms because they realized precautions were taken and
there was no real threat. Definitely call your neighbors before they call
the fire dept.
