Thanks to Austin Moseley for the comments of prairies in his part of
Texas. I find it interesting how widely distributed vegetation types
vary subtly from site-to-site and region-to-region.
A particular interest of mine is ants of the tallgrass region. From what
I've been able to gather, the Texas prairies have relatively poor ant
faunas, both in species richness and total abundance (at least until the
non-naative fire ants invade them), relative to the rich and bountiful
ant fauna of more northen prairies. Any ant or other insect enthusiasts
out there who wish to comment?
