Dear Mr. Carmen
The only barren restoration site in the natural areas program is May Prairie in Coffee County. However, this site is not developed for public visitation and there is no official parking area. The restoration area is largely in a agricultural field that was once part of the original prairie. It was converted to fescue pasture and it is now being managed for prairie restoration. The site is on the left side of the road, approximately 1 mile south on US 41 once you exit 114 off of I-24 towards Hillsboro. It is across from a salvage\car dealership. The open grassland area was originally about 36 acres. It is presently about 20 acres. The goal is to restore it to the original acreage. You are welcome to visit this site, but as I said, it he has not been developed for public visitation and there is no interpretative information or educational information presently available. We hope in the future we will have the resources to provide this. Thank you for your interest and I hope this information is useful.- Brian Bowen, Tennessee Natural Areas Program Administrator.
