Re: plant/seed source


Hmmm.  California has a lot of native grasses, and many of them are
sorely in need of additional habitat.  Some are even endangered.  It is
good to hear that you are interested in natives.  "A California Flora"
by Munz, might be helpful in selecting species which are native to your
particular locality in the Golden State.

Sonoma County, California - not a native prairie ecosystem, so I am

concerned about the genotype.  It would be used at the back of a meadow
hillside
(where it would need irrigation - there is no precipitation  here for 8
months
at a time).  Most of the meadow will be re-established with california
native
grasses.  It is now covered with foxtails and some native forbs.  It
really
needs burning, but there is a high danger of forest fire in the area
except in
the winter.
