Many thanks to all of you who have already emailed about the upcoming
City of Austin (TX) Bond Election.  You can do it again, as there is
new information to comment on!

Please write again or for the first time by clicking on http://
www.ci.austin.tx.us/council/groupemail.htm and urging support for the
proposal to increase the available funds, and ask that at least half
of the extra $60 million go to Open Space with at least $5 million
for prairie protection.

Here's the update: Some money previously voted on by the citizens
"for additional Greenway & Destination Park purchases" has not been
spent and could be used for acquiring Open Space sites currently
identified as important.

Also, at the end of the last public hearing, two City of Austin
Council members proposed increasing the tax rate an extra half penny
(beyond the extra two pennies already called for) in order to
generate another $55 or $60 million for the bond package.

The overwhelming majority of 1,400 public comments submitted to
council want more Open Space acquired/protected.  We wish to see $5
million (and $10 million would be better) for prairies recommended by
the citizens' advisory committee put back into the Bond Election to
be submitted to the voters.
