Title: sample farm bill letter and email addresses Hello,
Here's a one-page letter I've drafted, based on Cindy's email. Feel free to use it yourself, but please make some changes to personalize it.
Also, below the sample letter is how to contact the senators. If it reads "HART" next to their name, then they are probably not back in their offices yet, and you should use their email address only, usually provided through their website. If they are not officed in the HART building, then I urge you to fax your letter AND email it NOW.
Save the stamp on regular mail. Several of their websites stated they are not yet allowed to receive mail due to the anthrax problems.

Dear Member of the Senate Agriculture Committee,
This year when a landowner bulldozed, burned, and sprayed a high-quality Iowa woodland with huge hickory trees and diverse wildflowers and when he was confronted by an angry neighbor, he told her, "Lady, this is the new economics. The government will pay me to plant rowcrops on this land for two years, and then I'll get paid to plant shrubs and put it in the Conservation Reserve Program."
This sort of stupidity must stop. I support the CRP date-certain eligibility clause (Harkin bill). This clause ensures that land which is put into rowcrops for the first time after the new Farm Bill is enacted would not be eligible for the CRP (Conservation Reserve Program). Some landowners around the country are plowing prairies and bulldozing woodlands, getting crop support payments for putting that land in rowcrops for two years, and then getting paid again to enroll that land in the CRP. This is utter nonsense.
I support the Grassland Reserve Program which will pay landowners, via easement, to protect virgin prairies. The Reserve would help offset the current Farm Bill incentives to turn prairies into cornfields.
And I support Super Sodbuster which would make it much more difficult for landowners to tear up virgin prairies and still get crop support payments, crop insurance, and other Farm Bill payments on the rest of their land.
Sincerely,
