I'm going to be helping host the "Gardening Today" radio program on
WHO 1040 AM, Sunday mornings 10 AM to 12 noon several times in the next
4 weeks (11/17, 24, 12/1, 12/8).
As many of you know, native plants, and native wildlife,
particularly as they can be used and appreciated in "Backyard Wildlife"
gardens, "Raingardens", "Prairie Gardens," "Water$mart" gardens and the
like are topics I enjoy discussing and sharing with viewers.
So, if you happen to catch the programs, and want to contribute to
the discussion and or make comments, calls are welcome. Of course, calls
are welcome on the program anytime, but I happen to be organizing the
guests for the next several weeks, so I'm more familiar with these
upcoming programs.
On 11/17, we'll be discussing "greenroof" gardens, such as proposed
for the Des Moines library with Marie-Louis Kane and Nancy McKlveen.
They are hosting a forum on the topic to be held
at Meredith headquarters in downtown Des Moines on 11/19.
On 11/24, we'll be discussing invasive plants and include some talk
about how the issue is impacting magazine editors. My friend, LuAnn
Brandsen, of Country Gardens magazine will be with me, along with Kim
Bogenschutz, the invasive plants coordinator for the Iowa DNR.
Mohamad and I will be there together on 12/1. As far as I know, we
have no guests planned for that day.
On 12/8, Dr. Bill Graves, ISU Horticulture has graciously agreed to
come and discuss his research on the horticultural value of native trees
and shrubs.
In order to call, the studio numbers are:
The local number is (515) 284 - 1040
The toll-free number is (800) 469 - 4295
Don Thompson is usually the engineer in the control boot, and very easy
to talk to.
