Alan
I once rescued a F. rubra from in front of a highway buldozer. I dug the
large plant and replanted it while it was in full bloom. I cut the blooms
and watered it well. It survived as if it had never been moved. Two years
later I split the root into many segments planted it an inch or so deep,
mulched them well with garden compost, and they all took off. Most bloomed
the first year.
I tried to germinate the seeds but had very poor success. Root division
seems to be the way to go.
