Alan - Asters

Alan:
In south central Michigan, we have a number of white asters, along
with the purple New England Aster (A. novae-angliae) in our own tallgrass
prairie. While aster species are very numerous and difficult to
identify/distinguish, our white asters we believe are Heath Asters (A.
ericoides). What even complicates this further is that many species of
asters hybridize with each other. Would recommend that you check
Peterson/McKenny (A Field Guide to Wildflowers, NE, NC, North America).
Good Luck.
