Thank you so very much. Right now there is no sign of returning life; we'll
see next spring.
I find them remarkably intolerant to transplanting. I dug down the root of
one for 4 ft; it stayed the same diameter ( some 5 inches) all the way, so
I gave up. I have sliced the top 6inches off one of them in late fall and
replanted, just to find out how it fared, but it did not send out any
adventitious subsurface roots as I expected it to, it just died.
I think they need really deep roots. I gfrew some seeds in 1 gal pots, but
they all died the second year altho' well watered.
I will be interested to hear from you next spring, to learn whether yours
took.
