plugged up

got a question, i'm running some germination trials, and a few of my seeds, the
hole on the bottom where the water goes in and the root comes out, is plugged
up.  its almost like it got clogged somehow.  has anyone out there also
experienced this?  if so, how did you go about getting it to germinate?  should
i take something like a pin, and insert it ever so gently to open up the hole?
or just throw it away and get a different one?
