Subject: Oregon's Bannana Belt

Greetings from Oregon's bannana belt. I live in Southern
Oregon. I feel for you folks back east where it's snowing.
It's been sunny early summer weather for close to a month.
We finally had a storm move in today, bringing needed warm
rain.
The soil temp on my first hill was 70 with the cloche
off, it had been a real steady 80, so the rain cooled it a
little. I planted this hill on the 26th (I know, probably
too early, but I'm experimenting this year) and had one
sprout, but killed it by leaving the glass on too long and
cooked it. I only had 3 seeds of this line, planted two in
the hill and one in a peat pot in the wife's green house.
So I'd thought I was out of luck with that strain, but the
one in the peat pot is ready to break the surface so I'll
at least have one plant.
I Direct seeded last year, so I don't know when to move
this plant to the hill. I'm figuring when it gets two true
leaves, but would like any and all advice from you folks
with more experience.
I reseeded the hill with another strain on the 8th,
nothing is up yet. I've been using the hill with a shallow
hole with a plate of glass over the hole method. It worked
well last year. I made pvc and visqueen cloches that go
over the glass to help hold the heat in at night. I'll also
be able to keep using the cloches after the plants are two
big for the glass.
I have to finish getting The other hill ready for another
strain. I'm doubling my chances this year, but I'll
probably never grow as many as the pumpkin guru.
Well enough ramblings, I think I'll go watch the
lightning and listen to the rain.
