Nutrient Pits

Hi Everyone....I haven't heard too much debate on this but I'm looking for
guidance. In my growers package of info from Port Elgin's Pumpkinfest, they
pretty much indicate that a nutrient pit is the way to go.You did a 3x3 or
4x4 hole at the plant site and add all sorts of good "stuff" for the SQUASH
plant...manuer,etc...What i'd like to know is ...if you all dig nutrient
pits---what do you put in them and at what mixtures? Manure? Ironite?
Fertilizer? Greensand? What works for you? (I may have a last minute
secondary plant site and have no time to modify the whole patch's soil....I
can till and add fertilizers but no idea what organic content is nor do I
have time for a soil test.I can do the ph...but it would be a stretch to
correct it if its out too much . i think a nutrient pit will help me out but
i don't have a good recipe.....anyone?....thanks...glenn
