Virus in a suburban setting
Hi, everyone.
My experience with viruses has been in both urban and suburban settings. My
patch in the urban setting was larger than the one here in my yard at home,
but the impact was just as great.
All it takes is one bite from a carrying vector before or at pollination and
your patch is toast.
I have (had) no cuke beetles at all at either site. I did have a terrible ant
problem. In fact, they were red fire ants.
This year, I have seen no bugs or ants. I saw the evidence of a chewed leaf,
likely from a caterpillar dropping from the oak tree canopy above. Aggressive
spraying with Diazinon Ultra keeps bugs in check. So far, good luck, knock on
wood.
