Curled cotyledons

Hi all....Are curled cotyledons genetic or environmentally influenced? I
havent grown enough of these to know. The one plant I have going now has both
cotyledons curled under now(about 3 days out of the soil). It started out
fine,a yellowish color,I helped the seed case off and they greened up under
the light and spread out wide....and kept spreading...until now... they are
curled around underneath like the backing to a pierced ear-earing. The plant
is short, strong, with thick stem and roots growing up against the quart-sized
container clearly visible. All else looks great. Is this normal? All my squash
had normal leaves....these orange things are a bit wierd..........G
