Just wanted to get some news out to everyone.

There is a new "World's Fastest Pumpkin Carver"

Congratulations to Steve Clarke who many of you know from his occasional
posts to this list has just received his Official Certificate from Guinness.
His time of 1:18.8 beats the previous record of 1:37 for carving a
jack-o'-lantern.

Steve told me that Guinness ended every letter to him with a disclaimer that
stated that not all records make the book and it is an editorial decision as
to who gets in. The last letter said that he will "likely be featured in the
2002 edition" but it sounds as if there is no guarantee.

If you're out there Steve, how about filling in the rest of the story.

Here's a link to a photo of Steve (in white) and me the last time we met. As
the picture shows, pumpkin growers can sometimes be less than conventional in
more than just their growing techniques.
