For what it's worth, Maryland for the past few years has been battling
physteria (sp??) which is an organism that causes fishkills and disease in
humans. It gets into the waterways from the chicken manure from all the
huge chicken farms there. There are probably other pathogens that can cause
problems from too much manure, runoff, etc.
