Humates

Has anyone ever used Humates on their pumkins? Humates are supposed to be
good on gardens and lawns. I've put them on my grass before and I did have a
noticeable difference in that the treated lawn greened up faster. I put it on
my grass because it is supposed to help decompose the grass thatch without
the power raking, although I'm trying to build up the organic matter in my
soil not break it down. Humates are a compressed form of organic material,
containing a large amount of Humic acid and organic matter. They are
apparently mined from underground deposits as they are leftover from
prehistoric plants (I'm not making this up, but it sure does sound strange.)
If anyone has any thoughts I would like to hear them.
