Oregon Update
Whoa, did somebody say Oregon Update? No Way! But hey, its true. The 2001
season lurched into full swing today. I got a final tilling on the area
which shall be under cloche, Mixed in my final soil ammendments including
Ironite, Calcium Nitrate, Ammonium Sulfate, Ammonium Nitrate, Triple Super
Phosphate, Iron Sulfate, Triple 14 6 month slow release plus micros, Slow
relearse 34-10-4, Epsom Salt, and some rabbit poop. The tilling went really
well with all but a corner of site 6 working up to a powder. The Mint Straw
is paying for itself already. Lisa and I rebuilt our cloche structures and
set the mainframe up today with the plastic going on tomorrow.
I have swithched from using all the heat lamps in the hot house to start
seeds. This year I will be starting them in 4" peat pots in the oven with
just the light on. Test runs proved very well with 28 out of 28 germinating.
I will be unable to start all my seeds at once, but I don't forsee a problem
with a week or so inbetween starts. It may even prove beneficial in seeing
what doesn't come up do to some of the aging seeds we will be raising.
Speaking of seeds, here is the starting line up.....
Site 1 - 800 Edwards 99 and the 900.8 Lyons 94 Both will be my plants.
Site 2 - 616 Corkum 99 and the 862.5 Hester 99 The 862.5 will be raise by
Lisa.
Site 3 - 611.5 Hester 99 and the 969.5 LaRue 00 The 969.5 will be raised by
Lisa.
Site 4 - 801.5 Stelts 97 and the 846 Calai 99 The 846 will be raised by Lisa.
Site 5 - 780 Eaton 98 and the 723 Bobier 99. Both will be my plants.
Site 6 - 946.5 Geerts 96 and the 815 Checkon. The 946.5 Geerts will be
raised by Lisa
Site 7 - 850.5 Hester 99 and the 935 Lloyd 97. Both will be my plants.
Experimental site will be the 1026 Holland 00.
There may be some very last minute changes, but it looks pretty set.
