Why not like a livestock or dog show? There are breed champions and the
grand champions. Breeds are strongly defined and disqualifications
listed. We always knew that some guys crossed some purebreds, if the
offspring showed the off genetics he was kicked into the crossbred
classification.
I still like the idea of largest pumpkin due to the publics Halloween
prospective. In the news today the "worlds largest pumpkin"....

List, My suggestion,
Class 1) Pumpkin - yellow to orange (except for minor incidental
variations)
Class 2) Squash - gray to green (except for minor incidental
variations)
Class 3) Gourd - Open class- all colors and variations not meeting
class
1 or 2
Now, to settle the sure to discussion of incidental color
variations.
Judges will have final say and use the "Baseball Rule" where a tie goes
to
the runner. In our Pumpkin and Squash classes, if you have to ask
(question
the fruits color) it goes into the Open Gourd Class. This will have the
desired effect of making the pumpkin and Squash class genes as pure as
possible, with their colors getting better every year.
