Question from German Grower

Hello everybody and greetings from Germany!
Now as the pumpkin growing season is only one more month away I am already 
preparing my patch and I am thinking of different possibilities of where to 
plant my seedling into the patch. This difficult decision is the reason why I'm 
writing to the list today.
Here is my problem:
The first part of my patch has only very poor soil ( lots of stones; sand; 
little organic material ) but gets a lot of sunshine ( from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.).
The second part of the patch has great soil ( lots of compost, manure, rotted 
covercrops ...)  but is shaded for several hours in the afternoon due to a large 
tree in my neighbour's garden.
Now my question is if it would be better to train the primary main vine which 
will have the pumpkin on it to grow in the first or in the second part. 
If I let the primary main vine grow into the first ( sunny ) part of the patch I 
will train the secondary main vines to grow into the second part.
If I let the primary vine grow into the second ( sometimes shaded ) part I will 
train the secondary mains to grow into the first part.
Which of these two possibilities do think is better in order to get a large 
fruit? Any thoughts?
Is the primary main vine more effective in collecting solar energy / nutrients 
for the pumpkin as the secondaries?
Of course I will also bury all vines regardless of the quality of the soil.
