Breeding for the perfect - what?

Hi,

I've been peeking through the digests and I was happy to note the possibilities of cross-breeding pumpkins with other squash family members. I appreciate the many comments about heredity and color.

I'd heard that huge pumpkins do not have very good quality flesh. It seems to me that since they can get as large as 1000 pounds, it ought to be possible to create a couple hundred pound one that tastes good.

Of course, I certainly won't stop there in terms of playing around. My completely unrealistic other goal is to come up with a something as colorful as a gourd, with pie-quality flesh and edible (preferably hull-less) seeds that weighs a couple hundred pounds.

Which I thought at first was totally impossible, but reading some of the comments here makes me think that it would simply be really difficult (which would make it actually possible).
