No worries H. My neighbors thought I'd gone mad when I did the trellis thing
in my back yard to grow 12 plants to get the variety going (early '80's).
Three crosses and 5 selections over 6 years to get the "Collins Long gourd"
fairly stable (and set a world record of 99 inches (1990) that was never
really recognized - mostly because I did a lot of work for Guinness back then
and it just wouldn't look right, I guess) and able to offer it as a new
competitive variety. My wife also gave me the third degree!
I'm pleased that it has been so well accepted and hope someone gets close to
my brother Pete's record of 110 5/8 inches someday. Good luck to all with it
this season!
