Yes, you really do not want to start your seeds too early. Ray Waterman stresses TARGETING SEED PLANTING. And you can get more on this topic at http://www.backyardgardener.com/wcgp/tips/seedstarts.html.
Oh, and if you can get your order in early enough, Howard Dill offers a line of premium seeds. They sell out fast! Dills website is at http://www.howarddill.com/.
And a note on the free seeds available at BigPumpkins.com. Sometimes this website will offer a pretty good selection of seeds, but you will first have to become a member to get your free seeds. And I have personally had some problems with dealing with some of the members of this website.
Sometimes it is just easiler to got out and buy seeds!
