Re: 922.5 Emmons

Yes, Vince, but you did a good thing in crossing
that 922 with the 995 Carter, which seems to be
solid as a rock. So, your 971 *might* be somewhere
in between...? Anyway, I'm putting this one in the
patch as well.

Of the six 922.5 Emmons that I know of that were grown last
year, 5 of them split including my 971. This seed seems very
prone to produce spliters. My autopsy of the 971 showed that
the walls of the pumpkin collapsed and first split internally
from it's own weight as it was growing leading to the fatal
external splits.

In my opinion, the 922.5 fruit trys to grow bigger than the
walls can support before the walls thicken enough to bear the
load and that this is a genetic trait you can't do much about.

That said, if someone manages to bring a 922 Emmons to term it
will be big and beautiful. This was one of the most aggressive
plants and the fastest growing pumpkin I have ever seen - it
just wanted to be bigger than physics or gravity would
allow.... now if we could just alter the gravitational pull of
the planet!!!

best of luck,

vince
