How about Australia or New Zealand? Aren't their growing seasons different
from ours? I don't know the difference between the cost of importing the
pumpkins or just shipping your shoot over there to use the pumpkins. The
latter might be less expensive. However, I am not sure if the pumpkins over
there will be ready either, since I am uncertain of the exact months of
their growing period. You would definitely want to verify whether the
pumpkins are ready to photograph.
I realize that the following suggestion will disgust and horrify the purists
among us; However, what the heck...that never stopped me before.
If you can't find authentic pumpkins for your shoot; I suggest you contact
prop companies, especially ones that cater to the theatrical world. I would
almost guarantee that they have fake pumpkins of all sizes and shapes that
could be rented for your shoot.
