I'm anxious to get started this year.
The last couple of years, I've been pretty tied up with the family. Last
fall, my youngest graduated from High School. He's going to UB. I got
caught up
in the prospects of the "empty nest". We were jam-packing the last couple
of
years with quality family time. Other things seemed less important.
But this year, I'd like to get back to serious pumpkin growing.
How are things with you?
Bob
Andy our last is just finishing up with a final class and will walk in UB's
graduation ceremony! You may have seen him on many of my seed packets as a
youngster! He's been out of the nest for the last couple of years as his
grandfather lives less than 3 miles from UB and it was a better situation
(especially in the winter) to stay with him - was great for both of them. He has
taken a job with a firm on Grand Island as a chemical engineer and even has
plans to marry next spring.
Next in line is Maureen who just graduated from Cornell Veterinary School
last May and has a job locally. She and Brad (an architect) live in Depew.
Katie, the oldest is and architect as is her husband, Brian. All these
"kids" have graduated from UB with the exception of Maureen who did undergraduate
studied at UB in biology (5 years).
Katie helped at the weigh-off last October and the following day presented
us with our first grandchild - Zachary. A little babysitting coming up!
I'm planning on 12 acres of pumpkin this year. And next year I'm hoping to
challenge the competition with 2 AG plants in my backyard which hasn't seed
any plants since my world record long gourd in 1990.
That's how it goes!
