Like many others I've been here a long time. 5th longest continuously

registered name on the list. I tried to grow a big pumpkin before I found

"the list" as we used to refer to it. Last time I looked there were more

than 350 registered addresses. Once here I was able to learn about real

giant pumpkins and get some seeds. My first atlantic giant pumpkin wasn't

very giant but remains one of my all time favorites at only 341 pounds and

well 'over the chart' in 1997. (1006 x 1061) For long time growers those

are easily recognized seeds even without the growers names, the first 2

ever thousand pound pumpkins. Only my 905.2 in 2005 was as exciting as the

first one. Every spring I feel like Charlie Brown in search of the great

pumpkin. Recruiting and helping new growers is as much fun as the quest

for a big one.

The searchable archive remain a great repository of information. I know I

made post before the archives start but the earliest one I could find today

was "stem down

" in August 1997 . So you see some things never change, growers still have

the same problems. It's sad to see that most of the recent post are either

I'm here or get me off the list.

For those that don't already know, I'm a small time grower with only two

plants in my backyard. One will be my own 905.2 Toftness05 and the other

will be 955Brinkley06. As always I expect great things from both of

these. I don't know which is more fun, watching new growers with their

first big pumpkin at a weigh off or being surprised when your own pumpkin

goes heavy.
