RE: pumpkins DIGEST V1 #132

I'd like to say that I've been a member of this group for a long time, but
this is only my second year.
I made a lot of "newbie" mistakes during my maiden 06 growing season. I grew
3 plants in a 30'x50' plot. It was too crowded. Vines crisscrossed, the soil
compacted, the roots had no room left to grow, and all three plants
succumbed to Powdery mildew. I still managed to grow a 370lbs (436 Biga) in
spite of this. Before the season started I was super confident and thought
I'd grow a 900 pounder. That experience was humbling. This year I'm shooting
for a reasonable 600lbs fruit.

I too am one of the very early members but have not posted for quite some
time. I lurk but no longer have much to say. I have, for the most part
already
said it. Many of the original people have long since moved on to something
else or maybe nothing. There are a lot of valuable posts in the archives
and
these should not be overlooked by new growers. I start my seeds in about a
week.
