Kathy,
You're right this is more than just a hobby. It is about life and working
together as a people. Ones self confidence is also a factor. The best
advice I can give is to set a realistic goal and then try to better it each
year. You may have setbacks but in general you will grow larger fruit each
year (on average). You know, in 1982 the first 500 lber was not yet grown
(pumpkin). Harold Fulp Jr had grown a 513 lb squash in Indiana. Then 1983
and the first worldwide WPC contest came and eventhought a new US record of
465 lb was grown, a 500 lber was still elusive. It was a slow process to the
1061.0 lber of 1996. Its taken 14 years to add almost 600 lbs. I still say
a 1,500 lber is possible by the year 2000! What do you say?
