What should be considered when trying to prevent the soil from being
compacted around the pumpkin plant. How are you able to keep weeds down
if you can't walk on the area? Is staying away from the plant 2 -3 feet
enough to prevent root growth? Any ideas on this subject will be
appreciated.

I use 10" wide planks to get close to the plant, they help distribute the
weight.
