what do pumpkins want?

We had a discussion some time ago which suggested people test their soil
for trace minerals (like Magnesium) in addition to Nitrogen, Potassium and
Phosphorous. I'm ready to till in additives, but I have to decide how
much. Can anyone tell me the right concentration for each compound down
the list?

Last year, my pumpkin mentors taught me that the desired N, K, & P levels
change during the season to promote leaf growth and flowering, etc. Is
that also true of trace elements?
