I think it is safe to say that most discussion lists are composed of diverse
groups of people, some of which have "dinosaur" equipment and some of which
have good equipment but are held back by their Internet Service Provider's
capabilities. In rural areas, choices are often quite limited if you want a
local access phone number. At any rate, since Troy Nayler has generously
offered us an alternative way to disseminate file attachments, perhaps as a
matter of courtesy to the less fortunate we could reach some sort of
compromise? Maybe someone could propose a limit to the size of files which
would be considered acceptable to post to the group. Those who could not
live with any attachments might still have to unsubscribe, but at least the
standard wouldn't be every technocrat's "my way or the highway" attitude.

I think someone already offered this but I would like to make the offer too.
For those of you who don't have the equipment, I will scan anybody's photo
sent to me by regular mail and Email it back to them in a compressed JPG
format which is readable by many programs. I would also scan the file before
sending it back to you with Norton Anti Virus to make sure I'm not sending
you any unwanted gifts. If you want the hard copy of the photo back just
send enough to cover return postage.
