Well..I've been on a 15 day trip to the NE..and upon returning to the
pumpkin (and squash) plants at the farm ---- I discovered an explosion
has occurred... most now have a 3-6 foot main vine and a couple even
have a small marble sized immature fruit which may possibly open this
weekend..
Upon driving up to/approaching the row - I had visions of looking at
Joel Hollands young plants as seen in his videos...I'm really impressed
with how they are growing - the leaves are big and dark green - they
look better then what I have had grown in the back yard...There is still
a long way to go - but hopefully something big might happen..
I took a few notes on what looks good ==== lots I'd like to say but
breifly..
For starters...I had to try the lowly but surprising Canniff (state
record) 459 (96') -- I have 8 plants -- and they are really looking
very good...5-6' vines....thick main vines... very surprised at these..
3 Dill 715's look good....
2 Don Langavin 515 plants look good....827X722 JL crosses..
1 Harold Baird 774 looks good also his 652 (3 plants) look nice
2 Jack Larue 680's from Gus Saunders 680's look good..
2 L. Orr 815.5's look strong....
2 Al Eaton 739's --- good looking plants!....
hell basically - everything looks strong.... I have weeded the poor
plants out and the rest are as follows..
1 866 K Mombert...strong plant....small fruit..
4 JH 739's --- these are so-so... weird looking
vine....mashed...compacted....but big and thick....have to see here..
4 Len Stellpflug (LS) 760's
4 LS 737's
2 LS 588's
1 LS 730
4 Dill 600+ (3 look good)
1 RW 567.4 (don't know who RW is) from a 567.5 K.Mombert...via Don L.
and a few other top secret plants too....
OK...don't shoot me for "wasting" these good seeds...there doing very
good up till now....just be ready for the 4th of July weigh-off..
..and new state record too I hope...
Stay Warm,
Tim...
