Re: Ricks request
Hi Rick,
This is my second year on the list and also my second year attempting
to grow Giants. I grew jack o lantern size for several years before
that. I live in a suburb of Chicago and I grow my pumpkins in a small
back yard, without much direct sunlight. Last year my little tike
weighed in at 110 pounds and I had a great time with the growing
season. I grow them right on my grass. One of my main problems is
the local squirrel population, that continuously chew on my baby
pumpkins, vines and then the larger fruit. Last year, I resorted to a
live trap, What a Ball! The kids loved taking the squirrels to the
forest preserve every day. This year though, I got some HELLFIRE
spray (Thanks Jim Diamond). Will get those squirrels this year. I
keep a net around my giant pumpkins when it gets going, really deters
the little critters. I would be thrilled if I got a 200 pounder this
year. Of course, a 300 pounder would even be better.
Ciao,
AnnaMarie
