Richard,
Pumpkin seed is really not all that hard to germinate.
As I suggested my favorite method is to lightly file the edges of the seed,
place the seed in a damp paper towel inside a plastic baggie, I let them go
for 12 hrs.
As Wayne suggested use a very porous potting material.
This method works fine!
I only suggest the bubble method for seed which has known problems!
You might want to practice this technique before planting time,
remember everyone has their own favorite method and you may find this does
or does not work well for you!
