Rookie Weighing Off. SPGA

I would have liked to have posted this all at once but the lists
feedback was needed to help shape it up. This should be it.

Weighing a pumpkin for entry into the SPGA Rookie of the Year Award goes
as follows:

For the under 18 group weigh your pumpkin by the best means you can find
that involves some type of scale. Any means from a bathroon scale to a
grocery store scale will be allowable. I will need a picture of you next
to your pumpkin still on the vine. Send it to the SPGA up to one week
after the first Saturday in October which is the GPC weigh-off date. If
you have it weighed at a site we will gather that information ourselves.

18 and above will follow the same rules as for the Southern Cup. Weigh
the pumpkin by means of any official pumpkin weigh-off, or have its
weighing witnessed by an extension service agent. In the second case
send a photo of the pumpkin to the SPGA, along with a letter signed by
the agent stating the pumpkin was in reasonably good shape.

We will collect weights from all southern sites plus the Altoona GPC
weigh-off, in PA. If you have a southern pumpkin weighed at an offical
site other then these please notify the SPGA of your entry.

These awards are given in the hope that they may excite new growers into
the sport. It is especially awarded to the young ones to encourage them
to work together with a parent, go at it as an individual or as part of
a school team effort, so they might experience the joys of pumpkin
growing. I trust that growers will understand what the SPGA is trying to
establish here and will bring the honesty and integrity ( the "code of
the road" for giant pumpkin growers) to their entries for Rookie of the
Year.
