Mel,
Seedlings don't require fertilizer while in the pot, unless they are over
two weeks old. Very small amounts of fertilizer in a small pot can burn. You
may consider starting some new plants to put out when the weather improves.
Howard Dill plants seeds one week apart. If conditions are real bad, he
discards the older plants that don't transplant well anyway. If you have snow
on the ground, I dare say you should wait a few weeks. Plants will not grow in
conditions like that anyway. It is not uncommon for people in Northern climes
to wait until the first or second week in May before planting. Don't be too
concerned that some people have been able to start already. The Early Bird
doesn't always get the worm.
