The pollination only matters if you plan to use the seeds to grow pumpkins
from those seeds. If you only need to pollinate your pumpkin you could use a
banana squash or another vegetable that is a maxima. You could still get male
flowers from the ones you are starting behind as well, but as murphy's law
goes, you'll have plenty of flowers when you don't need them and none when you
do.

PS you can self pollinate too or borrow a flower from another grower if one
lives in the area.
